One Fish, Two Fish

It's been a while since I've posted. Things are pretty boring around here right now.
We did buy a fish last week. I'd been wanting a Plecostomus, otherwise known as an algae eater. They just look neat. So we headed to Petsmart and got ourselves a $6 "catfish". LOL. My title returned, because by the end of the day that stupid fish was dead. Grr!
So we took that spotted plecostomus back right from whence it came. Thankfully they will exchange them out for you!
So far so good. He's been chilling out in the tank. He and the goldfish seem to get along pretty well. The plecostomus is not very active. I've found them to be nocturnal so it mainly stays in the decorative barrel all day long.
I tried getting a pic of him but he's feeling camera shy. Will try again later when he's done hiding.

Happy Summer!

Blossoms and blue skies!

Brimming with flowers.

Hiding in the bushes!

Mr. Froggie

Pretty pinks

Happy Summer all. I know, technically yesterday was the first day of Summer. Better late than never I suppose.
Anyhow, I thought I'd give a quick update of the past couple of days.
The sweet kitten was picked up Friday by a Animal Care Officer. She had slept all though the night in our bathroom so I could keep an eye on her. I had managed to get some shredded chicken in her Thursday night. She had chicken broth too. Poor thing was so weak, she wasn't able to get a whole lot down. I guess she had gotten quite attatched to me. I'd been carrying her around and feeding her and loving on her. When the officer came I walked outside with her and she was perfectly content until the officer picked her up! She got quite upset. As soon as the officer saw her she commented on how bad she looked. Well she looked a whole lot better than on Wednesday!! She gave her back to me while she went and got a towel to put in the cage. As soon as I tried to put her in the cage she got very upset. Poor little thing, I felt so bad. She just cried and cried. Hopefully she is being well taken care of.

The rest of the day I cleaned up and did this and that around the house. I was at a loss for a while, no longer having a kitten to watch over! Maggie, on the other hand, was thrilled. When she realized the kitten was gone she loved on me like it was going out of style! Every time I sat down she climbed in my lap and just purred. Silly girl.

Saturday started bright and early. Richard had some errands to run and I went out with him. We stopped by Tropical Smoothie for lunch and got our free smoothies. They had a clown lady doing balloons. It was funny because there were a couple people who walked in without flip flops looking very confused. I guess they weren't expecting it to be so busy!

After that we headed home, and here we are! Richard headed off to take a nap. I think I will join him!

A Hard Knock Life

It's been a hard knock life. That's the best way I know how to describe this poor kittens few months on earth. Last night Richard went to church by his lonesome. He called me afterwards and let me know as he was walking out he found a kitten huddled in the corner on the front porch of our church. A girl wanted to take it but couldn't after talking with her Mom. So he brought it home.
Poor little thing, she is all skin and bones. She can't be more than a few months old. I fed her with an eye dropper then tucked her in the cat carrier in the garage.
Today I've been taking care of her. I chopped up some kitty treats which she ate this morning, but she hasn't taken anything since. She was super stinky and covered with fleas so I bathed her and de-flead (is that a word?!) her. She is one content girl.
She's been wrapped up in this towel sleeping the day away. Phoenix and Boomer have been most interested. Maggie is staying aloof.
I had called Animal Care for a pickup and was told they would more than likely be out in a few days. They ended up coming today, I missed them, so we shall have another day with this cutie.
I'll try to take another pic later.

When it Rains it Pours!

Talk about a fun last few days. Good gravy ours have been quite a trip. Last week I wasn't feeling good. I went to bed Saturday night and ended up getting up all through the night. Finally around 8am I woke up and felt better, only to go to get out of bed and WHAM I pulled/tore something in my back. I must have made a lot of noise because Richard woke up to me freaking out as I could NOT move! Ohh what fun.
Needless to say we did not make it to church and Richard spent the rest of the day being my errand boy. Thank heavens for my husband!
By Monday it had dissipated some. We had to go grocery shopping so we headed out. We ended up stopping by John and Gloria's, and to make a long story short we were there for around 3 hours talking and laughing with them. We ended up going to Outback for dinner with them. I had a salad, it was pretty good. I ate about half and took the rest home.
Tuesday my back was feeling alright. I had been puttering around the house, worked for a little while, then decided to eat the rest of my salad for lunch. It was supposed to have blue cheese crumbles, which were more like blue cheese blobs. I nibbled on some of them as I hadn't eaten any the night before. It tasted way too strong and I ended up pushing them aside. Good thing I did. A short while later I noticed my eyes had been itching like crazy, then realized my throat was swelling up. Oh fun. I ran for the Benadryl, called Richard and let him know what was going on, and texted my Mom who told me to take two instead of one. Thankfully about 30 minutes later the swelling had gone down. I hate reacting to things like this, it scares the poo out of me especially when I'm by myself! I've never had allergies before and now I'm adding blue cheese to the growing list of things I need to avoid like the plague! Who knew you could be allergic to blue cheese???
So needless to say the Benadryl conked me out and I slept the rest of the afternoon! No complaints from me! =)
Today has not been a whole lot of fun. My back has been killing me and nothing alleviates the pain. Thank heavens for heating pads as that has been my good friend! It stinks when no matter how you sit or stand it makes no difference.
So now I am reminding myself that ALL things work together...even though I don't see the big picture. I mean, it can't last forever..right??!!
So, happy hump day. I hope all my readers are enjoying a wonderful week, wherever you may be.

Getting Greener

Okay, big news in my little corner of the world. My thumb is getting greener.
Yesterday evening I ventured out with the hose to water my recently planted sunflower seeds. To my shock and awe they were already popping up!
Scoff if you must, I don't care.
It's no secret that I'm a plant killer, so this is big for me.
I immediately called Richard and informed him of my triumph!
This morning we went out and looked at them and more had popped up. There are probably 15 to 20 popping up right now.
I'm pretty excited, hopefully they will continue to grow.
I was on cloud 9 until Richard said "I hope we don't mow them over." Be forewarned you two, if you mow or weedwhack my sunflowers there will be a high price to pay! LOL! So now I'm thinking I should probably just break down and make a flower bed. I've been wanting to, just never got around to it. We'll see.
So there's my big news for the day. When they get bigger I'll take pictures.

Sometimes work is fun...

Oh me. Today was an interesting day. Yesterday really stank as I was getting all the meanies, but today was a bit more fun. For some reason I kept getting the people who wanted to talk and talk and talk!
One older lady from California had called in for some diabetic supplies. She just could not stop talking about all kinds of things. I'd steer her back to why she called and she'd just get right back off track again. More than 15 minutes later I finally finished up the call.
She was telling me about her friend that went on a cruise for 3 months. Her friend wanted her to go with her but she said no as she could not see why on earth someone would want to be on a boat for 3 months. I agreed. She was making me laugh hysterically and telling me jokes. She must have thought me rather nice because she informed me that if I ever wanted to run away from home, that I had her address and could come visit her and we would travel the world. Oh gracious.
I also talked to Roy Rogers. Not the famous Roy Rogers, but of course! When he told me his name, he informed me, "It's true." He must get teased a lot!
Another call that made me laugh was actually a wrong number. When I answered, a gentleman with a thick Southern accent plowed into how he had bought two boxes of Cracker Jacks and neither one of them had but two peanuts in them! I guess he likes his peanuts!
Well, I can't remember any more fun calls. I'll keep you posted.
I don't know about you all but I'm looking forward to the weekend!

Free Walmart Samples

In my previous post I talked about free samples from Walmart. I figured I would share how to get them if any of you are interested. If you go to walmart.com and click on "In Stores Now", then go to Free Samples you can find some interesting things. I've gotten some pretty decent samplings of things. It only takes a minute or two to take a look and stick in your name and address. We've gotten trial sized deodorant, shampoo, soap, body gel, granola bars, cat food, dog treats, all kinds of things. The drink powder is still available. Check it out. You can't beat free.

A Day Off

Today Richard and I had a day off! Nice! He had decided to take the day off and indulged me as well. Gosh it was nice sleeping in! LOL!
We bummed around the house most of the morning. We were both taking care of odds and ends around the house that needed done.
We ended up heading out later in the afternoon to run some errands. We ran by Walmart to pick up some things. We had split up and I was searching for a kitchen rug when I thought I heard my name over the loudspeaker. I never pay attention to what they're saying and you can't understand them half the time! It was odd though because I was sure I heard my last name! I had forgotten my cell phone so I figured I better head up and make sure it wasn't for me. Well, as I neared the front there was Richard looking about for me! He looked quite relieved to see me coming. He had been trying to call me, phone was at home so no answer. Got a little concerned!
I received some free samples in the mail of the little powder packets for your bottled water...One of the samples was Crystal Light Cherry Pomegranate. Love, love, loved it so I headed to get some. It was on clearance. Yay!
Anyways, we headed back home and watched some LHOTP. Richard took a nap and I putzed about then made him some dinner.
I just realized it's way past my bedtime. It's back to work tomorrow so I better get my butt in bed! Hope everyone is having a lovely week!

The Weekend

Okay, so I'm supposed to be cleaning my house. Obviously it's not getting done right now as I'd rather play around on the internet than get things accomplished...like dusting and laundry and sweeping and mopping! UGH! The weekend has been nice. I finished work early on Friday and was done just as Richard walked in the door. Talk about nice timing. We hung out for a while.
This morning we headed out to do some errands. Took care of a couple of things then headed to Cracker Barrel for lunch. For some reason Richard's food is always horrible there. This time it was alright so he said. After the waitress handed us a game piece and he found out we could win money and a RV he informed me we would be going all the time. LOL! We'll see if this comes to pass. After lunch we walked over to Lowe's. A good brisk walk in the sweltering heat was enough to drain me for the day! We headed back home and watched some LHOTP (Little House on the Prairie for all you uninformed). It's amazing that show is so old but it's good! And clean! Which is more than can be said for most things these days. Afterwards he headed off for a nap and I along with Phoenix nestled in to watch America's Test Kitchen, Everyday Food and Everyday Baking. I love PBS.
After Richard headed out to work I waited for the sun to go down a bit and headed out and planted some sunflower seeds. It's kind of late but hopefully they will do okay! I'm excited to see if anything comes up. I've got a bad reputation when it comes to plants and flowers. Christy next door has this awesome garden going with radishes, pumpkins, zucchini, tomatoes, all kinds of things. I'm a tad jealous but Phoenix and a garden do not mix. I'd be setting myself up for disaster. So I planted sunflowers in the front yard. Keep your fingers crossed.
Anyways, I'm supposed to be cleaning. I hope everyone is having a lovely weekend.
